Install on your phone

AbiData is an installable web app. Adding it to your home screen gives it its own icon and a full-screen window with no browser toolbar. It is still the same site: nothing extra is downloaded from an app store.

Requirements

• Your AbiData address must use HTTPS. Browsers only offer installation on secure sites, with localhost as the one exception for testing.
• Open AbiData in Chrome (Android) or Safari (iPhone and iPad).

Android (Chrome)

1. Open your AbiData address and sign in.
2. Open the Chrome menu (three dots).
3. Choose Install app (or Add to Home screen) and confirm.

AbiData then appears in your app drawer and on your home screen.

iPhone and iPad (Safari)

1. Open your AbiData address in Safari.
2. Tap the Share button.
3. Choose Add to Home Screen, then Add.

Photos in the field

On a phone, a record that has an Attachments field shows its photos on the record sheet with a large Take photo button. It opens the camera; the photo is uploaded and added to the record, and Save stores the record. Several photos can be taken one after another. The browser asks for camera access the first time.

Offline behaviour

AbiData always needs a connection to reach your data. When you are offline, the app opens and shows that it cannot connect instead of a browser error page. Your data, API calls and live updates are never stored on the phone by the installed app.

Updates

When a new version of AbiData is available you will see "A new version is available" with a Reload button. Reload when you are ready; an update never interrupts what you are editing.
