Messages

AbiData includes built-in internal messaging so team members can hold direct conversations or discuss work inside a shared workspace without leaving the platform.

Open Messages

  • On Your workspaces, select Messages in the top bar (or open your account menu and choose Messages) to open your platform-wide inbox at /messages.
  • Inside any workspace, select Messages in the top bar to open /w/{ws}/messages scoped to that workspace's threads.
  • When you have unread threads that are not archived, a badge on the Messages button shows your unread count.

Direct messages and workspace threads

Every conversation is a thread with a Subject and chronological replies:

  • Direct message (direct): a private conversation between you and one or more colleagues on the server, addressed by @username, email address or display name from the recipient directory. Only the participants on the thread can view or reply to it.
  • Workspace thread (workspace): a conversation attached to a workspace. Every member of that workspace (see Members and roles) can read and reply to the thread, including members who join the workspace later.

Reply, mark unread and archive

  • Reply: write your message in the Reply to thread box at the bottom of the conversation and select Send reply (or press Mod+Enter). Select Reply on a specific message in the thread to reference that message as the parent of your reply.
  • Read and unread: opening an unread thread marks it read automatically. Select Mark unread in the thread header to keep a conversation flagged for follow-up.
  • Archive: select Archive to move a thread out of Inbox into Archived. When anyone posts a new reply to an archived thread, it automatically returns to every participant's Inbox as unread.
